The purpose of research in the social context is to analyse the different variables associated with the care of a person with cognitive deterioration and/or dementia and to discover which ones enable or hinder the wellbeing of the person being cared for and their immediate socio-familial group.

This is considered to be a cutting-edge line of research and is one of the characteristics that differentiates Fundación ACE from other Catalan and Spanish organisations.

Two studies are currently being carried out:

one aims to study the structure of carers surrounding people with cognitive deterioration; it is based on data from 9,900 people.
the other aims to establish to what extent the level of overburdening on the main carer is correlated to the condition and behaviour of the person with cognitive deterioration and/or dementia; this study is based on information about 1,000 carers.

social robotics

This is the discipline of developing technology that interacts with human beings and carries out diverse tasks through established social norms; this requires the capacity for social intelligence. This interaction requires the establishment of high-level communication, with systems that allow verbal and non-verbal human language to be decoded and the capacity to interpret and predict people’s social behaviour.

Social robotics has various applications, including medicine, where a number of robots are currently being explored that are able to offer support in different environments (hospitals, residences and homes) and illnesses (chronic obstructive bronchopulmonary disease, autism and Alzheimer’s disease, among others).
